Story Behind the Foundation

Meet The Precious Tokens Foundation (TPTF) - a youth led, community rooted nonprofit organization dedicated to restoring dignity, expanding opportunities, and inspiring hope in the lives of children and young people from under-resourced communities across South Africa. Founded in 2016 by a group of passionate teachers working in non-fee paying schools in Soweto, the foundation was born from a simple yet powerful truth: no act of kindness is ever wasted. These teachers often reached into their own pockets to provide food, clothing, hygiene essentials, and application fees for students they treated as their own. But they knew that their impact would be even greater if they worked together and even more powerful if they invited others to join. In November 2019, The Precious Tokens Foundation was officially registered as both a Non-Profit Organisation (NPO) and Public Benefit Organisation (PBO). What began as a shared mission among educators has since grown into a movement of changemakers from various fields who share a common purpose: to uplift and empower the next generation.

Our work is guided by compassion, collaboration, and an unwavering belief in the potential of every child. We fill the gaps left by broken systems, offering practical support, heartfelt mentorship, and holistic care through a range of grassroots programs: Dignity Drive, Care Club, Matric Dance Fairies

What fills us with even greater pride is seeing former beneficiaries return as graduates, professionals, and now volunteers ready to pay it forward. Some of our youngest members are students who once received help and now donate R50 of their monthly allowance to support others. They are our TPTF Ambassadors, leading with empathy and reminding us that age is no barrier to impact. Together with our ambassadors, volunteers, and partners, we’re building a South Africa where kindness is currency and no child is left behind.
